One of my oldest and best friends (The Priest) told me today that he and his wife is expecting their first child. Amazing news such as those really lighten up a Monday!

Went to the Lawyer today…
to have a nice game of Dungeons & Dragons. Good fun, lots of laughs and lots of sidetracking. It is now clear to me that the older you get the more easily sidetracked you get. Back when we were young (cue on violins) we would roleplay when we came together to roleplay, now we are too easily sidetracked by jobs, work, other experiences, food, and of course Monty Python.
But it was fun and we made level 3. So far so good.
Hmmm… Thought for the day: Is the tendency towards getting sidetracked an early hint of lurking dementia? I hope not.
Quickjot: Beta testing
Why do computer software companies invite potential users to participate in a beta test when the program you’re requested to test cannot be installed successfully on anything but the Cray 9000 SuperFlex that the developers used to compile the first draft?
Friends and Publicity
Started writing that hobby page and met a challenge: You can’t very well mention other people unless you know they are okay with it. Therefore I’ll be using pseudonyms for my friends. At least I have friends who are readily identifiable so I’ll just label them the Naval Officer, the Doctor, the Lawyer, the Designer, the Ambassador, the Priest, and the Market Director. That should make it pretty obvious to those who know them and pretty opaque to those who don’t.
Now I have my soapbox…
… but what am I going to use it for?
So far I find that I have about 10 hits. Not a lot but on the other hand the blog hasn’t been up for more than 24 hours. Enough to be encouraging but not enough to start thinking megalomaniacal thoughts of “Today the internet, tomorrow the World!” or something like that.
I think I’ll use this platform as a sort of diary (yellow card for unimaginative idea) and as a repository for my ideas concerning my hobbies (second yellow card for obvious use of free webspace). I think I’ll create separate pages for my hobbies and fill them out as I write things for them. That way people (red card for thinking anyone anywhere would ever read this) can easily find new entries.
First day back at work
Exactly as little fun as it sounds. First day back at work following a fun and relaxing vacation is just not very uplifting. Well, following 72 Emails and countless phone calls the day ends with a TCPW (This Can’t Possibly Wait) from one of our major clients. Off to the client’s location for the next three hours.
Best part of the day though is to be greeted by your loved one. My wife was all smiles (she is still on vacation from work so why shouldn’t she be?) and she made me hot coffee and cut up some of our Sardinian nougat for me. Mondays aren’t all bad.

Why do you serve scolding hot tomato soup with large amounts of garlic to people who are sitting in a flat-roofed building without air condition and who have jobs that rely on personal relations?
Wisdom
There is an impressive amount of options associated with the maintenance of this blog site. Just started browsing through the parameters and setup options and I just know that at some point I will disable some key component that I can’t find again. I’m an IT professional (and has been for several years) but I’m also a notorious “I-wonder-how-this-works” kind of person. With this in mind I couldn’t help but laugh at my pompous tagline “Thoughts and wisdom….”
I think it should more clearly be labelled “Enter at own risk”.
Nostalgia
Just noticed the “Hello World” dummy entry.
That just tells you that the people behind this site has been around for at least as long as me. It would never fail, back when I was studying it was inevitable that at some point during your introduction to a new programming language you would make a page, control, button or whatever that produced the phrase “Hello World” once operated.
I will leave it for the time being.
Titles… or what’s in a name?
Blogging is new to me.
And since I’m a late arrival on this scene all my usual usernames have already been taken. So you start thinking about other names and you discard quite a few of the spontaneous ones as they are really bad (but might bring a smile to your face) and then you (mistakenly) start trying to be philosophical.
My last name is Green and this is an experiment (the blogging, not that my name is Green, I’m pretty sure that was deliberate) so I started thinking about that. Experiments in comics are always about bubbling vials and what have you. So I pictured this as my think-tank so to speak, where I can write whatever nonsense that I come up with.
The think tank (taken) was converted into the thought tank (taken) and later into GreenTank (not taken). Now that I look at the name I can see why it wasn’t taken, it sounds like the armored weaponry of a pissed-off eco-guerilla nutcase. But there it is and I’ll be damned if I change it now.
